Assessing risk is a critical activity supporting organizational excellence and it is a requirement of ISO 9001:2015 and included in most quality management systems. This course develops the skills necessary for performing an objective risk analysis.

The risk investigator must have a general understanding of both the processes and the tangible and intangible influences on the process. Very often, risks may be present in many forms.

Performing a risk analysis requires patience and a methodical approach of “following the clues” in gathering facts to assess and take appropriate actions. Effective risk analysis requires knowledge of the tools of quality and a clear understanding of the advantages and limitations of each of these many tools. The format for this course includes several practical mini group projects and workshops directly related to process and performance problems within the organization. The theoretical basis for risk analysis is presented to the extent of answering the “why” questions for each step of this process. Participants completing this course are immediately able to apply their newly acquired risk analysis skills immediately upon returning to their regular work assignments.

Course Instructor

Milton Krivokuca is Chair Emeritus of the Master of Science Quality Assurance program at California State University Dominguez Hills, Carson, CA. He has also taught master’s classes in critical thinking and quality theories at California State University Fullerton, Illinois State University, Meta Business School, University of California Riverside, Al Yamama University Riyadh, and University of Redlands.

Additionally, he has presented papers in Viet Nam, Jamaica, Hong Kong, Trinidad, China, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Ghana, Nigeria, Czech Republic, and the UAE, as well as countless locations throughout the United States and Canada. He is past chair of American Society for Quality Management Technical Community, and an ASQ Fellow.

Dr. Krivokuca’s advanced degrees include an MA, MBA, and a DBA. He is a contributing subject matter expert to the Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence Handbook. Currently, his work involves developing research related to the application of performance improvement techniques, focusing on integrating human capital with Big Data, to address the unique issues challenging managers in Industry 4.0.
